Why peatlands matter

Nature's most powerful carbon sink
Peatlands are among the most effective nature-based solutions to climate change. Though they cover just 3% of Earth's land surface, drained peatlands release enormous amounts of greenhouse gases. Restoring them transforms these ecosystems back into vital carbon sinks while supporting biodiversity, water retention, and ecosystem health – essential for meeting EU climate neutrality targets by 2050.

How we work

From data to action
Our work is built on decades of expertise. We identify drained peatland areas with high climate potential, quantify their contribution to climate protection, secure funding and sponsors, commission rewetting measures, and ensure their long-term effectiveness through comprehensive monitoring.
